Andrea BadenochAndrea Badenoch was a gifted writer who lived in Newcastle and produced four novels in the last few years of her life. Andrea was at the peak of her literary career when she died of breast cancer in 2004. This annual award that bears her name has been established by her family and friends in association with New Writing North. The £4,000 award is open to women fiction writers over the age of 42, which is how old Andrea was when she submitted the manuscript of her first novel. The award is judged by a panel which includes Andrea's son, Jay Miller, and her friends and fellow writers, Debbie Taylor and Margaret Wilkinson.
