The Andrea Badenoch Fiction Award was set up in memory of the writer Andrea Badenoch, who died in January 2004. The winner of the 2008 award is Gibby Keys, for her novel in progress The Handfastin'. The award was announced at the Northern Writers' Awards ceremony at the Hexham Book Festival.
